Palimpsest House

A contemporary retreat on a shifting coastal edge, Palimpsest House by Monk Mackenzie is a built form that holds traces of what came before while accommodating the inevitability of change. Featuring the Hem Puffy Lounge Chair, exclusively available at Tim Webber.
It registers both memory and erosion, drawing from the imprint of a once-familiar beach while acknowledging the evolving conditions of its site. This duality is expressed architecturally through a composition that is at once grounded and lifted, where courtyard and pavilion coexist. Thick, curved walls choreograph movement toward the east, gently guiding from moments of enclosure to openness.
A compressed approach through dense, tree-lined forest heightens awareness before the horizon reveals itself. This contrast between compression and expansion underpins the spatial experience within, where rooms remain interconnected yet subtly shift in atmosphere and orientation.
Designed as a weekend home, the house balances intimacy with generosity — a place to gather, to retreat, and to endure over time.
