Mt Maunganui Bach

Set in the high-density neighbourhood of Mount Maunganui, the home needed to embrace its surroundings while offering privacy from close neighbours. Architecturally, the gabled form maximises interior volume and elevates sight-lines toward both the harbour and the Mount. Large sliding doors connect the kitchen to a covered street-facing terrace and barbecue area, ensuring outdoor living is part of the everyday experience.

The house is designed as a sequence of moments, each space offering its own sense of delight. The side entryway is intentionally crafted to create a sense of arrival, leading guests through the heart of the home rather than past private bedrooms. From the top of the stairs, the view opens in two directions - east to the sheltered loggia and west to the harbour.

Studio 2 Architects paid close attention to the details, with Kevin Garrity’s expert craftsmanship bringing the vision to life. Flooring lines align seamlessly with the negative detailing of the ceilings and walls, a subtle but intentional layer of artistry. 

With carefully selected materials and a timeless design approach, the home is built to endure, not just structurally, but aesthetically. Remaining relevant and beautiful for decades to come.
