Project Sabbia

Designed and delivered by the project team, this beachfront home on the iconic Whangamata shoreline offered its owners a rare opportunity to realise a long-held vision of coastal living. When invited to contribute to the interiors, my aim was to support Matt South’s design direction - he curated the furniture, selected the finishes, and created a suite of bespoke pieces tailored specifically for the client. My role was to help bring Matt’s concepts to life with craftsmanship that echoed the warmth and ease of the coastal setting while maintaining a sense of refinement.
The result is a serene, contemporary environment that feels both elevated and effortlessly relaxed. Natural, enduring materials form the foundation of the palette, supporting a lifestyle defined by slow days, open doors, and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape. To build on this, Matt selected furnishings that balance comfort with sculptural presence, including the Puffy Chair by Hem - chosen for its soft, inviting form that beautifully suits the coastal context.
In collaboration with Matt, we brought a series of bespoke designs to life, including custom stools and a dining table crafted with meticulous attention to detail. These pieces introduce a distinctly tactile quality and a sense of individuality, giving the interior its own unique personality. Together, they reinforce a vision that feels tailored, timeless, and deeply connected to its coastal surroundings.
